Big news? We've just released and officially launched a new feature : the Azendoo Timeline! Azendoo timeline is an easy, visual and intuitive new view for your own and team tasks.

Available now to all accounts and in all plans, you'll find it in each Azendoo subject. Azendoo Timeline displays your work on a gantt-like view and helps you visualize your tasks in a whole new way in order to plan your projects more clearly, allocate resources dynamically and adjust dates on your tasks much faster.

Here is what it looks like:

The Azendoo Timeline

Timeline vs Gantt

Gantt charts are usually pivotal to project management and to a certain idea of project hierarchy (top-down approach). One of the early promises of Azendoo was to replace traditional project management with a collaborative platform for teams to self organize and eliminate unnecessary work about work so that each team member can focus on the actual tasks which move projects forward.

So we did not copy/paste traditional Gantt charts in Azendoo.

However, a lot of Azendoo customers felt the need to visualize projects in a different way. So we designed Azendoo Timeline view so that it would require as little maintenance as possible in order to avoid unnecessary work logistic, such as keeping a Gantt chart up to date, trying to keep up with real-time changing dependancies, etc.

We also aimed to propose a new way to plan projects and track progress. Our early research showed that most customers did use Gantt-charts only in order to “sell” projects to their own clients, and then had to re-enter the tasks in Azendoo to have the actual work (and collaboration) happen.

A new way to visualise your project's tasks

Now with Timeline, you can not only plan your projects with your clients but also keep that display alway up-to-date and self-maintained throughout the life of the project, saving you precious time for delivering better work.

The Azendoo Timeline

The Timeline view is a new view for your existing tasks. Only tasks with a due date or both a start and due dates are displayed. Completed tasks are shown so you can track progress and a few key task information are displayed such as task assignee, number of subtasks or other subjects the tasks are shared on.

The Timeline view makes it easy to adjust dates on tasks with simple and intuitive drag and drop interactions. You can also create tasks with dates in just one click.

Easily resize tasks from either end

The Timeline view is self-organizing, meaning that tasks are re-ordered each time you open the Timeline view and will adjust display if you modify tasks dates. We chose this method because it requires zero maintenance efforts for you. The Timeline view is always optimized and up to date.

How to take advantage of the Timeline

To access the timeline view, go to any subject and click on the new Timeline tab. All tasks with dates assigned will show up on the timeline on their respective dates. Tasks with only due dates will appear on the due date, while tasks with both start and due date will stretch between the two dates.## How to take advantage of the Timeline

You can easily switch between three levels of zoom by clicking on the gear icon on the bottom left corner, enabling you to focus on a shorter period of time or zoom out to have an eagle's eye view of your project.

You can create tasks directly from the Timeline view. Simply click anywhere on the Timeline and start dragging to the right to the right. Once you release your click, enter the task label in the pop-up to create the task.

The task created is automatically shared on the subject and with the right dates. You can assign the task from the timeline view by clicking on the assign icon on the left or open the task by clicking on the three dots on the right, and selecting Open.

All tasks are draggable, meaning you can modify their dates by simply dragging them across dates. You can also adjust tasks periods of a task by clicking on either end and extending or shrink the task duration to your preferred date.

Tasks can also be completed or canceled directly from the Timeline view via the three dots dropdown menu.

Available now for everyone

The Timeline view is now available for all our users on all plans. As usual, please reach out if you have any feedback so we can keep improving this feature and make Azendoo even more useful for your daily work.
